Ahlam Alshedoukhy started her career as a pathologist, became a practicing physician, and eventually a professor. Despite that, she always had an interest in the humanities and she eventually found herself and her voice in her art. By looking at the world and human beings with an analytical eye and with a love of colors, she began to see the power of expression through painting. She started her artistic journey in 2004, working with oil and acrylic.

Her major sources of inspiration are society and the self as she focuses on the individual versus the collective identity. She found this inspiration in her conversations with her children and her students, in the microscope of her study, and the intricate developments happening in her country of Saudi Arabia. These are all part of the stories she tells through her paintings.
